AFAIK...the headphones have their own "soundcard" built in, so in fact you don't really need a sound card to use these headphones. That's the who reason these technically aren't plug and play, because you need to install the headphones like a new input/output for your computer.

As for the debate of true 5.1, it depends on what you think of as true. Some people refuse to acknowledge headphones as being applicable to 5.1 settings. However as Logan states, 5.1 is about perception and that is what the headphones are able to mimic through the use of multiple speakers.

I'm confused, will this headset work with a soundcard? your not plugging it into all those jacks in the back =/, and is it really true 5.1 surround sound?
